Discover how our Dark Oak Vintage Parquet flooring was used to help transform a dated C19th flat in London’s Whitechapel into this airy apartment that is the epitome of cool urban style.

The brief for this project was to create a cool, sociable urban living space that was beautiful, practical and sympathetic to the style of the building. Interior designer Cathy Emmins achieved this and more with a clever combination of colour, bold pattern and a mix of luxury and industrial finishes and fittings. We talked to her about her choice of our Dark Oak Vintage Parquet for the flooring.

How important was the flooring?

Given the large floor area it was a key part of the design. The existing floorboards were very worn and needed replacing but we wanted the new floor to look as if it was part of the original building. It also needed to work with underfloor heating and the exposed brickwork.

Why Broadleaf?

Broadleaf had an amazing choice of styles and finishes, a convenient London showroom with good visual displays and sampling service, and the right balance between quality and price. We were able to find flooring in exactly the style of we were after that was also compatible with underfloor heating.

Why Dark Oak Vintage Parquet?

With its authentically worn edges, and the distressed non uniform look, I knew the moment I saw the Vintage Parquet that it would be perfect for this project. The Dark Oak colour worked perfectly with the warmer tones in the scheme like the aged brass kitchen cabinets and contrasted really well with the bold patterns I had in mind. The fact that it was arrived pre-sealed was an added bonus.

Are you happy with finished result?

Both the client and I are delighted with the floor.  It blends perfectly with its surroundings and looks like it’s been in situ for ever. It’s easy to clean as well as being hard wearing and will look better and better with time. This was the first time I’d used Broadleaf.  I’ve used them again since and would definitely recommend.
