Once owned by HRH The Queen and Sandringham Estate The Workers Cottage has now been tastefully transformed into a luxurious rural holiday retreat by owners Jolene and Jason.

This beautiful period property had been unmodernised for decades and was in need of significant renovation. As it was going to be a luxury holiday cottage the finishes needed not only to honour the history of the building but also to be of excellent quality so that they would delight guests and wear beautifully.

Jolene explained that the flooring was a key part of the design – “Floors are a major part of your interior design project which take up a huge chunk of budget and provide a sense of comfort as well as visual impact. They really anchor a room and choosing the wrong floor can really impact the other design choices.”

Wood was chosen for the lounge and master bedroom for its sense of warmth and luxury. Jolene wanted to use an engineered board without compromising on quality so she choose Arriba from our Brushed & Burned Collection in a generous 200mm width in our all Oak Strata option. Gently aged to re-create the effect of years of wear and elegantly rustic in style it was a perfect match for the aesthetic of the cottage and now looks as though it has always been part of the architecture.

When we asked Jolene why she choose to work with Broadleaf she explained “It was early lockdown 2021, so visiting a showroom was out of the question. I had been in touch with other manufacturers but the customer service from Broadleaf surpassed them by far. The manager of your Lincoln showroom listened to my brief and recommended a product I had previously bypassed when looking online. He assured me it was a beautiful finish and promptly had a sample mailed to me. It was even better than he claimed, a clear winner and I would absolutely use it again.”

We think the end result is a great success and would certainly love to stay in this beautiful cottage. Luckily Jolene and Jason agree - they are “Very happy all round and our guests regularly comment on how beautiful the flooring is”
