Classic Cottage Oak Plank Doors

Broadleaf Oak Plank Doors are traditionally handbuilt in our workshops here in Wales from carefully selected solid oak planks. Our Cottage Oak plank doors feature larger knots and richer colour variation for an authentic characterful look. They are made to measure and can be finished in traditional style with decorative rosehead nails, or without if you prefer or want a more modern-looking door,

FROM: £264.00

All of our Oak Plank Doors are made to measure typically from 4-6 planks depending on the size of the door and the planks selected. The edge of planks have an authentic bead and butt profile on the front and a simple bevel on the rear.

They are fixed with 3 solid oak ledges.

Stopped Ledge Doors have ledges which are set back from the edges of the door and chamfered all the way around. They should be chosen when doors will have hinges fitted to the face,  so that they fit neatly against the door stops when the door is closed.

Thru Ledge Doors have ledges which run all the way to the edges of the door. They are chamfered on the top and bottom only, and should be chosen when doors will have hinges fitted to the rear so that there is no ugly gap under the hinges or unnecessary stress on the hinge.

See the fitting and hanging information below for more information about suitable hinges for your oak plank door and which side of the door to fit them to.

Our Oak Plank Doors don’t have diagonal braces as standard as these are not required for stability when you use stable kiln dried oak, but these can be supplied as an extra if you would like them as an aesthetic detail.

Choose the ‘up to’ size that matches your door and then enter the exact measurements for production in the box below, then quantity and add to basket.

Oak Plank Doors are designed to be fitted with traditional ‘T’ or strap hinges and whichever face these are fitted to will be the one that opens towards you. Where doors are to be hinged on the face, the ledges on the rear of the door will be stopped slightly short of the edge of the door to accommodate the door stop. In this case, they are bevelled all round. Where doors are to hinged on the rear they will run through to the edge of the door to prevent an ugly gap between the edge of the hinge and the door. In this case, they will be bevelled top and bottom only. For this reason, we will need to know which face they will be hinged on when you order.

To hang our Oak Plank Doors we would recommend our range of traditional door furniture.

Unlike many Oak Plank Doors, ours are supplied sanded ready to be sealed with any knots expertly filled, saving significant time, effort and disruption at installation stage. To finish our Oak Plank Doors in situ we recommend Broadleaf Hardwax Oil.

Alternatively, they can be ordered with one of our signature workshop finishes.
