Fixing Methods

Glueing

Thanks to modern adhesives, most Broadleaf floors can be fitted directly to dry, level concrete. We recommend Sikabond T54 or Bonakemi R850 (see product selector in our brochure for specific guidance) which are applied to the subfloor with a comb and the boards are then laid onto this. We recommend that the floor is primed with a compatible primer first.

Broadly, this method is suitable for traditional solid boards up to 150mm (or 105mm over underfloor heating) and Strata boards up to 200mm, even over underfloor heating. For specific guidance on glueing Broadleaf products, see the product selector in our brochure, or ask our staff when you order.

In order to glue fix successfully, the subfloor must be dry and level. 'Dry' is defined as 4% or less measured with a Tramex concrete encounter metre. 'Level' is defined as within 3mm across 2 metres of a straight edge. If you floor doesn't meet these criteria, it may need further preparation before your floor is laid such as the application of self levelling compound or a moisture barrier. Glue should not be used to compensate for a level sub-floor outside the recommended parameters.

Always apply the glue with the comb recommended by the manufacturer to make sure that the correct amount of product is applied, and double check that the adhesive you wish to use is suitable for your chosen product.

N.B. If you are fixing boards to an existing suspended floor, and wish to improve sound insulation, glue can also be used with some products in combination with nails to achieve this.
