Dimensions: The planks making up Broadleaf Oak Plank Doors are 20mm thick. The ledges are a further 22mm thick and 150mm deep.
Profile: The joints between the planks feature a bead and butt profile on the face and create a v-groove between them on the reverse.
Fixing: Broadleaf Oak Plank Doors should be hung on a pair of traditional T or Strap Hinges to support their weight (approx 30kg). For full size doors these should be 18" / 15" respectively. The position of these hinges depend on which way you want the door to open.
On doors that are to open face towards you, the hinges will need to be fixed on the face. The ledges on face fixed doors are gently chamfered all the way around and stopped slightly short of the edge of the door (stopped ledges).
On doors which are to open face away from you the hinges will need to be fixed on the ledges. The ledges on rear fixed doors are chamfered on the top and bottom only with the ends running through to the edge of the door so that the the hinge will pivot correctly when fixed to the ledge (through ledges). In this case a 22mm door block will also supplied to take the Latch.
Please specify when you order which style of ledge you require, or ask our staff if you need advice on this matter.
Generally plank doors are closed using Traditional Suffolk or Cottage Latches although toilet or bathroom doors will also need a privacy or other bolt. For cupboard doors a Pull Handle and magnetic catch is usually sufficient. Click here for details of our hand forged door furniture.
